The teachers and professors provide different options for these topics so that students will have something new to read and learn about when they graduate. Some students may feel pressure from their parents to choose a topic or see an exam which will help determine which topic they will take on. As long as they feel up to the challenge, students can try to select a topic they will be happy with.Political Science graduate students should focus on topics that do not directly deal with politics and that will help them gain a better understanding of how politics works. This is a debate that will continue throughout a student's career in college and often continue after graduation. One of the most important topics for political science grad students is the subject of Socialism. The topic is controversial and the debates go back and forth on what the best form of socialism is. Many students argue that government intervention does not do anything good for society and is usually criticized for taking away rights from citizens. Others believe that there are times when government interferen ce is good for society and that is why it is needed. Students should spend a lot of time researching these topics and to understand why a specific government intervention is a good thing. One of the most debated topics among political science grad students is gay marriage. The debate is mainly between the pro-traditional marriage and the anti-gay marriage camp. Both sides argue that they are needed and should be legalized but that it should be done in a way that will help the community.Students who want to get their political science degrees will have many choices when it comes to learning about different topics. Neo-Expressionism Essays - Art Movements, Contemporary Art
Neo-Expressionism The term neo-expressionism describes the art movement that dominated the art market in the early and mid 1980's. The word "neo" refers to a revival of previous ideas or trends. Expressionism was a style from around the time of World War 1 that was highly personal, and was often executed with violent fervor. Neo-expressionism is similar, and also generally uses bright colors, recognizable objects (such as the human body) with distorted representation, great expression of emotion, and often commentary on social issues. It usually is not realistic. The common subject matter often deals with the negative aspects of life: vulgarities, violence, cynicism, and brutality. It is full of symbolism, and is considered figurative and gestural. A varied assemblage of young artists portrayed the human body in reaction and in contrast to the remote, introverted, and highly intellectualized abstract art production in the 1970's. The original goal of these artists was to depict emotional and psychological concerns of themselves and their times. This is often achieved by using heavy black outlines to express anger and hostility in addition to strong contrasts of the bold colors. Other artists explored color and abstraction to express spiritual and/or mystical ideas. Other common traits presented in paintings of this style included: a rejection of traditional standards of composition and design, the use of vivid but jarringly banal color harmonies, and a simultaneously tense and playful presentation of objects in a primitivist manner that communicates a sense of inner disturbance, tension, alienation, and ambiguity. This movement was also linked to and in part generated by new and aggressive methods of salesmanship, media promotion, and marketing on the part of dealers and galleries. It was controversial both in the quality of its art products and in the highly commercialized aspects of its presentation to the art-buying public. There are several artists that dominated and accurately represented neo-expressionism. Some of these artists are Sandro Chia, Georg Baselitz, Immendorff, Francoise Arthus, David Salle, and Terry Marks. The 5 elements of art are easy to recognize in this style of art. Line is used to create the shape that represents the objects of recognizable nature in the painting. The use of Color is quite obvious. Because most colors are bold and contrasting, a lot of times there aren't a lot of variations in value. The colors used often add to the non-realistic elements of the painting. Texture isn't a big issue in neo-expressionist paintings, though. Personally, I really like this style. It's easy for me to relate to it, and to create my own paintings representative of it. I like the colors used, and the freedom to express emotion and feeling. There really are no limits to what you can do with this style. Bibliography The 20th Century Art Book. Schizophrenia in Society essays
Schizophrenia in Society essays Schizophrenia is defined as a chronic and debilitating mental illness which causes the distortion of reality. It is one of the most severe mental illnesses known to the scientific community. In a day and age where over 22.1 percent of Americans have diagnosable mental illnesses, schizophrenia seems to be the king. In 1998 statistics showed that over 2.2 million people had schizophrenia. It is estimated that 1.1 percent of the world population have schizophrenia in a given year. Schizophrenia affects men women in the same way. People usually develop schizophrenia between the ages of 18-25, but usually men get it earlier. Schizophrenia has many variations of itself. These variations are called subtypes. One subtype of schizophrenia is catatonic schizophrenia. When someone has catatonic schizophrenia they exhibit extremes in their behavior. People with catatonic schizophrenia may also develop catalepsy, echolalia, or echopraxia. Catalepsy is a lack of response to external stimuli and muscular rigidity causing the limbs to stay in the position where they are last placed. Catalepsy is also common among people with epilepsy. Echolalia and echopraxia are similar in the fact that they are both imitations of something. Often people with catatonic schizophrenia imitate sound (Echolalia) movements (Echophraxia). People with these can explode into a jumpy, erratic behavior causing them to repeat purposeless movements. Catatonic Schizophrenia is rare today, but will always be referred to as one of the most advanced types of schizophrenia before modern treatment. Another type of schizophrenia is Disorganized Schizophrenia. People with this subtype are often very disorganized in their actions and speech. These peoples actions may seem flat and inappropriate at times. When disorganized schizophrenia is developed it disturbs a persons behavior, communication, and thought. People with this may be more eccentric than most people as many dressy...

Regal Marine Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Regal Marine - Essay Example The product life cycle has four stages: introduction, growth, maturity, and decline. During the introduction stage sales are low because there are few customers buying the product (Netmba, 2011). The product needs advertising in order to attract new customers. The profits during this stage are nonexistent due to the fact that expenses are high and sales are slow. Regal Marine losses money when new boats are introduced, but eventually if the products survives and stays in the market during its entire product life cycle the firm generates a profit from the model. The maximum amounts of profits are generated during the growth stage. The growth stage of the product life cycle is considered a period of rapid market acceptance and substantial profit improvement (Kotler, 2003). Regal Marine should produce a lot of units during this stage. Investments made in advertising during this stage have a high return. The third stage of the product life cycle is the maturity stage. Competition is high during this stage which causes sales to decline (Valuebasedmanagement, 2011).The firm should lower its advertising expenses during this stage because the product is well known. The final stage, declining, is a period of downward sales and eroding profits. At the end of the declining stage the boats model is taken off the market.

Teachers Collaborating to Help Students with Epilepsy Research Paper
Teachers Collaborating to Help Students with Epilepsy - Research Paper Example While this collaboration holds weight on all instances, its significance increases substantially in instances of extreme difficulty, such as presence of illnesses in students. Epilepsy: Epilepsy is a brain disorder characterized by repeated seizures over time. Seizures are sporadic episodes of perturbing brain activity that causes changes in attention and behavior. Defining Seizures: Seizures are caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. The symptoms and affects of the seizure will depend on the area of the brain affected. The organ which is affected depends upon what part of the brain is affected. Seizures are classified into two types: Focal seizures and generalized seizures. Focal seizures start in any one area of the brain and may or may not spread across other areas of the body. Generalized seizures result from abnormal neuronal activities on both parts of the brain. Simple Focal seizures are guilty of causing unusual sensations, movements and feelings; however, they are not the cause of loss of consciousness. Complex focal seizures can be the cause of loss of consciousness and can produce dreamlike experiences or repetitive behavior. The area at which these focal seizures begin is what defines these seizures. E.g. Epilepsy of the temporal lobe originates on the temporal lobes of the brain (National Institute of Health, 2007). Generalized seizures are known to cause massive muscle spasms, loss of consciousness and falls. Generalized seizures have several subtypes. Some of the key types of generalized seizures are: Absence Seizures: Absence Seizures are characterized by symptoms that cause victims to stare into space or jerking and twitching of muscles. They are known to start during childhood or adolescence. Tonic Seizures: They cause stiffening of muscles. Clonic Seizures: This form of generalized seizures causes repeated jerking of movement on both sides of the body. Myoclonic Seizures: Myoclonic seizures cause twitches, jerks, and sporadic mu scle movements in the upper body, arms and legs. Atonic seizures: Loss of normal muscle tone which can lead to sudden drops of the head is caused by atonic seizures. Epilepsy, which is characterized by Seizures, is also divided into different types. Several syndromes of epilepsy are identified by researches; while some of them are recognized as hereditary, the causes of other syndromes are not known (Wyllie, 2007). Epileptic syndrome classification uses the terms symptomatic, idiopathic and cryptogenic. Seizures that have a known underlying cause are characterized as symptomatic. Idiopathic seizures are seizures which do not have a known cause. Cryptogenic seizures are seizures which have a suspected cause but the cause is not known for certainty (National Institute of Health, 2007). Location Related Epilepsy: This form of epilepsy consists of focal seizures. This form of epilepsy constitutes an EEG pattern, characteristic of focal electrical abnormality. The prognosis of location r elated epilepsy is very difficult and depends upon location of the brain abnormality (Engel, Pedley, & Aicardi, 2008). Westââ¬â¢s Syndrome/ Infantile Spasms Infantile spasms fall under the symptomatic generalized epilepsy. They are found mostly in children of the age from 3 months to 3 years, associated with sudden epileptic flexor spasms and extreme risk for cognitive impairment. During the episode, the affected child may suddenly flex his limbs, flex forward at the trunk and cry. This episode is transient,
